Automatic Plastics Ltd (APL) was founded in 1972 by Alfred Lawless (Snr) now retired. During his 40 years in the plastics industry, he worked as far away as Canada and on his return to Ireland he took up the position of Manager in the Injection Moulding Department of Krups Engineering, the domestic appliance manufacturer.

APL started life in Tinahely, Co Wicklow and the first machine was bought to supply plastic mouldings for Hansons weighing machines. The day Al Junior was born, the third machine was purchased.  In 1975 the business moved to it’s current site, also in Tinahely. The site offers many advantages – the capacity to expand, the availability of an enthusiastic local workforce and convenient access to 3 major ports and Dublin International Airport. The original premises was expanded and new facilities were built throughout the last three decades – the business now has a 33,000 square foot facility.

Originally APL started as an injection moulding supplier and this is still the core competence however in response to the needs of customers, APL now also offers a number of additional services – to deliver a comprehensive solution for our clients. Al (Junior!) now runs the business with the support of a loyal, close-knit management team and staff.
