APL offers a comprehensive Tool Management service which includes sourcing, storing and maintaining tools. At present we are managing almost 200 tools for customers.

Source Tools

We are thoroughly familiar with the tool making process and as such we can advise clients on a consultancy basis on the best way forward to meet their tooling needs. We have also sourced toolmakers abroad who can manufacture new moulds at a significant discount to local suppliers with no compromise on quality. This service can offer customers significant savings.

Tool Storage

All tools are stored on a specially designed racking system with rolling shelves capable of holding tools up to two tonnes in weight. An overhead crane has been installed over the new production area leading to reduced tool change times and higher efficiencies.

Each tool is monitored on a daily basis and a strict maintenance program is in operation to ensure that all tools are kept in optimum condition. While running, each tool is cleaned daily and all mould protection settings are verified on a weekly basis.

Tool Maintenance

Our workshop is equipped to carry out most maintenance requirements and the majority of repairs required on any mould are done inhouse. We employ two full time toolmakers. Our tool room has the traditional Milling Machine, Surface Grinder and lathe. We also have a CNC Milling Machine and a Spark Eroder. For additional support we have a specialised welder operating within 1 mile of our premises. Customers can be confident that the tools we manage will be available and operational when needed.

As the supplier of the tooling they also maintain the tooling on a on going basis.
